The second event of our Summer Season has traveled along the Thames to land at the London post-card: Comida Fest in Potters Fields by Tower Bridge is our biggie!

With more than 30 traders smoking out their grills, stirring up their pots and getting saucy, Comida Fest brings experienced chefs and also adventurers cooking Latin American street food or inspired by it!

Let’s get refreshed with tropical super fruits, juices, beers and cocktails OH YEAH!

Kids and family activities, live music and DJs, dance performances and workshops! Full Arts & Culture programme below!

Comida Fest SS17 Greenwich- Kids-14Dancing is an elixir and kids love music, come and join this fun dancing session for kids with Talentos, the Colombian community group that promotes healthy encounters with Latin American people and culture! Parents are more than advised to join and have fun!

Comida Fest SS17 Greenwich all-310Open and free class of Salsa with the Colombian group Cali Swing! The double award winning group rehearses locally and have over 80 members from 4 years old. Their Comida Fest session is for all levels and ages to learn how to let the contagious swing of salsa to take over you on a very fun and flowy session and all you need to bring is yourself!

DJ Carlitos (Latinos in London / Arriba la Cumbia)

carlitosOriginally from Colombia, Carlitos is an architect and key person in the Latin American cultural scene in London. Carlitos runs Latinos in London Magazine a multi-promotion online platform, organises key Latin events in London such as Arriba La Cumbia, from private to olympic gigs, he runs a radio show and DJ. He will play a wide range of musical styles fused with global & Latin american rhythms – A musical bridge between past and present of latin american music from traditional roots and fusion to classical hits and emerging global artists around the world.

Dance Show with Talentos Arts Group

Talentos

 

Talentos is a Colombian folklore dance group of dance, by Latin Americans living in London promoting culture and traditions through artistic expressions such as dance and theatre. The show is based on traditional dance from different regions of Colombia in wonderful colourful costumes.

The Wheel Sisters - Live Band

As a cultural tradition in their hometown they have persevered with their musical passion transcending frontiers and cultures playing traditional music from Tropical, Cumbia, Latin popular music to folk and Anglo-Latin fusion. If music is your thing, here is how to enjoy the best of the music of Latin America, either folk, traditional, modern or contemporary with this fantastic female voices and talented musicians.

Lokandes - Live Band

Lokandes Taking the melodies and energy of Andean music and mixing it with Rumba, Reggae and red hot Afro-Latin rhythms, Lokandes is lead by Kanti Qena and unites musicians and instruments from Peru, Bolivia, Spain, and the UK, their original music with socially conscious lyrics is contagious. Since their first album launch they played at great venues in London such as Jazz Cafe, Notting Hill Arts Club, British Museum, the Coronet, among others and taken part in several Latin American events, and festivals like Lovebox, Big Chill Fest and others. Be ready to be enchanted!

DJ Limão

l1Limao’s introductions of Brazilian and Latin music into DJ sets has had a reputable following in London and has been played gigs next to names as Giles Peterson, Carl Cox, Marky . Also enjoyed supporting iconic main acts as the likes of Sergio Mendes, Gilberto Gil, Marcos Valle in the UK and other parts of Europe and of course, all around Brazil.

On Sunday, Comida Fest keeps bouncing around with wonderful tropical storytelling and face painting, with music from Brazil, Mexico and Colombia and dance from Bolivia and an open zumba class on top of all delicious authentic food and drinks for all taste buds!

Kids - Storytelling with Cal for Fun

CalCarolina Cal is an actress and drama facilitator working for over ten years around Brazil and UK. She works in partnership with different organisations, focusing on education and cultural empowerment through Drama, delivering fun theatre workshops to nurseries, SEN schools, Primary schools, women and children’s rights institutions as well performing with different theatre groups and directors around Europe.

DJ Luiz Valente - Resident DJ

val2Luiz Valente is a DJ, Cultural Entrepreneur and DIY inventor from Minas Gerais – Brazil. Member of the Deejay collective Vinil é Arte (“Vinyl is Art”) and founder of Vinyl Land Records, he’s diverse career expands over 17 years. He is in tour in Europe so Comida Fest is very pleased to listen to this man’s sounds!

MariachiMariachi means FIESTA, and these guys rocked Comida Fest in 2016 so they are back with a repertoire from the classic Mexican songs to the Latin world hits that we all will sing together!

Zumba class! Open & Free

Andrea is Colombian and grew up dancing salsa, merengue, cumbia, bolero, rumba, and more recently, reggueaton, latin jazz, bachata, samba, quebradita and she then found ZUMBA! Zumba is an easy-to-follow, calorie-burning dance fitness party! And it’s one of the best ways to keep in shape without feeling you have to do “the workout”. There is no need to know how to dance. Come andsurrender to her licensed lead and let yourself go on a journey of exotic, contagious and exhilarating rhythms.

boliFraternidad Cultural Bolivia UK is a folkloric group based in London with the aim of promoting the best of Bolivian Culture through dance. The incredible group has taken part is many carnivals around the UK, in several Latin events and in trafalgar Square at the St. Patrick’s Parade. You know nothing about Bolivia? Always pumping an eclectic mix of traditional rhythms, old and new superhits, and alt electronic beats, DJ Neiva and El Tuma will be bringing the best of reggaetón, Son, salsa, cumbia, bachata, hip hop, Brazilian funk, chicha ¡y más!

Johnny Freyre: Viva La Musica - Live

JFTo close our Sunday on the best note, Comida Fest is pleased to present a fusion of highly infectious rhythms of Latin America such as Cumbia, Salsa, Merengue and tropical vibes! Led by Johnny Freyre from Yumbo, Colombia the band will play tropical and folk music with the popular sound of rumba Cali style. Talented, passionate and charismatic just like Latin America is!
